Your Rights

There is nothing I hate more then bad food and as Brits, it is expected that we will not make a fuss.  I for one disagree and believe that it is everyones right to complain if something is not up to standards.

Complaining can actually be a very difficult thing, if you shout and get angry then that is not going to help your case at all, it’ll just make things worse.  So here is the professional moaners guide to complaining in a restaurant.

1.  Restaurants want you to complain, they have a reputation to uphold so anything that is wrong must be pointed out to the waiting staff.

2.  You have a valid reason to complain if there are foreign bodies in your meal, bits of human or objects.  Ask for a replacement dish if it is larger, if not ask that it be removed.

3.  Taste is a subjective thing,  if something tastes wrong or if has visably gone off then you might want to get another person at the table to taste it too (it’ll be two against one when you complain!)

4.  Do not feel bad ordering a waiter to do things, that’s there job.  Any hint of rudeness or resentfulness must be reported to the manager/maitre’d immediately, they should go out of their way to rectify it.

5.  The first words that they should say is ’sorry’  if you feel that this has not happened then write to the manager with a formal letter of complaint.

6.  Do not be afraid to refuse to pay for all or part of the meal.  If your experience has been tragic and ruined your evening then why should you pay?  It is your right.  And remember, if you feel the issue has not been resolved then write to the restaurant when you get home!
